Tatar takes reins of UBP

The main opposition National Unity Party (UBP) has a new head — former finance minister Ersin Tatar — after incumbent Hüseyin Özgürgün conceded defeat before a planned second round of voting in the party’s leadership election.
MP Zorlu Töre, the chairman of the party’s executive, said the party’s board had decided that Mr Tatar should take over immediately rather than waiting to be formally “anointed” at a reconvened congress on the weekend.
